Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport and Third National Sporting Injury Prevention Conference: "Tackling the Barriers to Performance and Participation"

Intoduction

Professor Roald Bahr will be a keynote speaker on sports injury prevention at the Third National Sporting Injury Prevention Conference in Canberra, Australia in October 2003. The conference is organized in conjunction with the 2003 Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport. It will tackle the twin barriers to participation in sport and physical activity caused by injury and by obesity.

The Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport is a multidisciplinary meeting held annually for professionals with an interest or a specialisation in sport. It is coordinated by Sports Medicine Australia and encompasses the annual meetings of six key professional bodies involved in sports science and sports medicine in Australia. They are the:

 

 

- Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science

 

- Australian Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine

 

- Sports Physiotherapy Australia

 

- Australian Society of Psychologists - College of Sports Psychologists

 

- Sports Dieticians Australia

 

- Sports Doctors Australia

 

 

The Third National Sporting Injury Prevention Conference is a biannual Conference that is the initiative of the NSW Sporting Injuries Committee. It provides a practical approach to the prevention of injuries in sport and recreation.

 

The program showcases the latest developments in Science and Medicine in Sport, through Keynote and Invited presentations, debates, symposia, practical workshops, free papers and posters.

 

In addition, the Conference offers professional networking opportunities, gala dinners, social activities and an exciting trade exhibition of new products.

 

The Conference is interdisciplinary, and its purpose is to promote knowledge and practice in sports science and sports medicine by providing an interactive and interdisciplinary educational forum of the highest standard so that the participation, performance and well-being of Australians engaged in physical activity may be ultimately enhanced.
