Description

Aim: To investigate the role of the menstrual cycle and use of hormonal contraceptives on the risk of health problems in female football players.

Methods: During the 2020 and 2021 seasons players in the women’s premier football league in Norway reported all health problems weekly, using the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre Questionnaire on Health Problems, and their menstrual status weekly. All players also reported their training (h) and match (min) exposure and if their menstruation started in the previous week, and then when. Information about their menstrual health and use of hormonal contraceptives were gathered through a baseline questionnaire completed at inclusion in the project.
