Description
Limited knowledge exists regarding injury risk and pattern for World Cup snowboarding athletes.
The aim of this study is therefore to describe the injury risk and pattern to World Cup snowboarders.
Method
Retrospective interviews with FIS World Cup athletes from selected nations were conducted during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 winter seasons in the different disciplines of snowboarding. The interviews were done at one of the season-ending events based on a week-by-week schedule of the World Cup program. All acute injuries were recorded with information on body part, injury type, severity, as well as the specific diagnosis. For athletes not present at the interviews, their coach, team physician or physiotherapist were interviewed instead.
This project is part of the FIS Injury Surveillance System FIS ISS.
This study is the first large cohort study to describe the injury risk to World Cup snowboarding athletes.
