Stig Heir, MD PhD, is an Orthopaedic surgeon at Martina Hansens Hospital in Bærum, Norway.

In 2011, Stig defended his PhD thesis on "Focal Cartilage Defects in the Knee" after been a PhD-student at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, and the Institute of Surgical Research, National hospital in Oslo.

Stig Heir is authorized as Sports Medicine Physician (Idrettslege NIMF) by the Norwegian Society of Sports Medicine and has served as team physician for the national team in Freestyle skiing since 1991. His main research areas are twofold: One is the treatment options of joint cartilage injuries, the second is prevention of serious knee injuries in skiing with the emphases on Freestyle skiing. Stig is a former competitor in orienteering and cross-country skiing.
