Thor Einar Andersen
MD PhDCV
Thor Einar is a professor and head of the football research program at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, the Department of Sports Medicine, the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. He has a master degree in health management from the University of Oslo. Thor Einar is a trained physiotherapist, a senior consultant specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as an authorized Sports Medicine Physician by the Norwegian Society of Sports Medicine. His main research area is football injury epidemiology, football injury mechanisms and causes and football injury prevention. He has published more than 80 original peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. From November 2019 to March 2021 he was the Chief of Sports Medicine Department at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Doha, Qatar. Thor Einar is since January 2020 member of FIFA Medical Scientific Advisory Board. He is a member of the Youth Athlete Hip Research (YAHiR) international consensus group led by Oxford University, England, Amsterdam UMC, University Medical Centers, The Netherlands, Edinburgh Napier University, Skottland, Aspetar Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Hospital, Qatar, FIFPro, the worldwide representative organizations for professional footballers, Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona.
Thor Einar is the chief medical officer and member of the Medical Committee of The Football Association of Norway. He has served as team physician for the men´s national A-team in football from 2002-2014. He is medical director and senior consultant specialist at the Norwegian FA’s Medical Center. He was member of the board in the club Nordstrand IF and director of football in the football department in Nordstrand IF from 2002-2019.
Thor Einar Andersen was awarded a UEFA Research Grant as researcher in the 7th cycle, 2016/17 for the project "The preventive effect of an adductor strengthening program on groin problems in Norwegian male football players: A cluster randomized controlled trial."
Thor Einar has a previous career as a professional football player and has won two national championships with IK Start in 1978 and 1980, and he has represented Norwegian international youth teams in football from U- 15 to U-23 teams.
